Averil Thompson

Family LIfe & Early Childhood Coordinator

As a member of UCC for over 27 years, Averil is grateful and delighted to serve in the role of Family Life & Early Childhood Coordinator.  Averil, and husband Mark, came to UCC as newlyweds in 1989, and were baptized in our baptistry. Since then, they have raised their 3 children, Megan, Caitlin, and Liam, here at UCC and had the glorious joy of witnessing all 3 baptized in what they call their 2nd home. All 3 Thompson young adults have served, or are currently serving, in many of our own ministries and in international mission fields.

As a Certified ISP Home Educator, Averil has taught in ISPs, and private Christian schools in grades K-12 for over 13 years, and as a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years. She loves children and is passionate about teaching children all about our amazing God.  Averil knows that children, from a very young age, have a great capacity for truth and compassion, and she seeks to promote a culture of a heart for serving one another with the love of Christ. To every child she declares “God created you wonderfully, for a purpose, and He loves you.”

As a parent, she is real about the struggles of parenting; while she freely admits she has made many mistakes, she also knows that through Christ’s forgiveness, we have such great hope of transformational living.   Being keenly aware of the culture’s draw on children and the challenges of parenting in today’s society, Averil desires to be a help and resource to parents in their journey of raising up children who know and love God with all their heart, mind, and strength. Her favorite mantras to parents are, “there is no perfect parent, but there is a perfect God.” and “pray without ceasing.”

Last but not least, Averil has trained in Biblical Counseling from Saddleback Church, and is a certified Prepare and Enrich Facilitator for marriage preparation and enrichment.
